Four police cars and a police van were seen at the end of Links Road, near to the entrance of Weymouth Golf Club.
It is understood that officers were looking for a moped and were searching the area to find it.
A local resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said just after officers turned up, the moped appeared and it was stopped.
Officers then spoke to the rider of the moped and seized the vehicle at the entrance to Weymouth Golf Club.
It is understood the incident had nothing to do with the club.
It is not yet known why officers were looking for the vehicle but once officers had finished speaking with the driver, the driver walked away and the moped remained in the custody of the police.
Dorset Police has been contacted for more information about this incident.
