Monster Mini Golf is teeing up at Regency.
The franchised indoor mini-golf chain, whose locations feature glow-in-the-dark courses populated with animatronic creatures, has signed on to open in a 10,400-square-foot space across from virtual reality venue Pelagos VR at the western Henrico mall’s Quioccasin Road entrance, said Steve Bonniville, president of Regency manager Broad Sky Management.
The venue is expected to have a doorway facing into the interior part of the mall in addition to an exterior entrance.
While 18 holes of monster-themed indoor mini golf are a core part of the company’s experience, locations may also offer additional activities, such as arcades, laser tag and bowling.
More details about the Regency location, including an anticipated opening date and what activities will be offered beyond mini golf, were unavailable this week. Monster Mini Golf didn’t respond to a request for comment.
Bonniville said Monster Mini Golf was a desirable tenant for Regency because it is in line with the vision of owners Rebkee Co. and Thalhimer Realty Partners to transition the mall away from a traditional retail emphasis in favor of activity-focused tenants.
“It continues to build on the experiential stuff we’ve been doing here,” Bonniville said.
The transforming mall’s anchors now include Surge Adventure Park and Performance Pickleball. The mall is also home to recently opened Twin Hickory Tavern which is in a space near the upcoming mini-golf venue.
The mall’s mixed-use redevelopment drive by Rebkee and TRP also features apartments, with a new phase of residential units now underway.
Connie Jordan Nielsen and Nicki Jassy of Thalhimer handled lease negotiations with Monster on behalf of Regency.
Monster Mini Golf was founded in 2004 and lists more than 40 locations in the United States and Canada on its website. The upcoming Regency location would be its first in the Richmond region. Its other Virginia locations are in Stafford and Chantilly.
