Mississippi State basketball begins its first stretch of games away from Humphrey Coliseum today.
The Bulldogs (3-0) are playing Utah (3-0) at Landers Center in Southaven on Sunday (3 p.m., ESPN2). They won’t return home until Dec. 4 when the Bulldogs host Pittsburgh in the SEC/ACC Challenge.
Utah’s three wins are against Alcorn State, Central Arkansas and Queens University. This will also be the Utes‘ first game away from home this season, and their 98.0 scoring average is tied for the eighth most in the country. Mississippi State is 2-0 all-time against Utah and most recently took a 52-49 win in coach Chris Jans’ first season.

Mississippi State 74, Utah 60: This is the first true test of the season for both teams that are 3-0. Utah was picked to finish last in the Big 12 preseason poll, but it took a slight step forward in 2023-24 in coach Craig Smith’s second season. Still, the Utes haven’t made the NCAA tournament since 2016. It should be a great scoring battle between Josh Hubbard and Gabe Madsen, who averages 25.3 points per game and is shooting 48.6% from 3, but the Bulldogs will prevail in front of the mostly home crowd.
