YORK, Maine — York Public Library will once again transform its building into an 18-hole miniature golf course in its two-day event “Mini-Golf at the Library,” which features fun for all ages.
Friday evening, Jan. 31, offers a ticketed Clubhouse Night for adults 21 and older, and on Saturday, Feb. 1, the course will be open to all ages, free of charge for “Family Fun Day.”
The holes, bumpers, golf balls, and clubs are rented from New England-based Library Mini-Golf, but volunteers and community groups transform the course into something completely one-of-a-kind.
York area nonprofits, groups, and town agencies are invited to provide imaginative obstacles. The obstacles are typically mission-aligned and specific to the group, sometimes with an added literary twist.
“Mini-Golf at the Library has already become a true community event, an opportunity to celebrate many wonderful and worthy – not to mention extremely creative – groups in town,” said Jane Siviski Hoffman, development and marketing coordinator for York Public Library.
In its inaugural event in 2024, hole contributors included the Old York Historical Society, the York Department of Public Works, York Ready for Climate Action, York Diversity Forum, White Pine Programs, York Community Services Association, and Friends of the York Dog Park.
“The community’s involvement makes Mini-Golf at the Library that much cooler,” continued Hoffman. “Plus, it’s the middle of winter, and people are looking for something fun to do. Who doesn’t want to play mini-golf at a library?”
Friday’s “Clubhouse Night” features a tournament at 5:30 p.m. for those who like a little friendly competition — followed by an “Open Play” period at 7 p.m. for those seeking a more leisurely-paced game. Two complimentary drinks and heavy appetizers are available at “The 19th Hole” (The Community Room), as well as an array of raffle items. Nick’s Steakhouse will provide the wine and beer.
Clubhouse Night tickets are $50 per person ($75 at the door), and two drink tickets are included. Registration is offered for teams of four, but trios, pairs, or individuals may register as well, and the library will create groups of four. Doors open for both “Clubhouse Night” events at 5 p.m. Proceeds from the event support the York Public Library Association.
Saturday is “National Take Your Child to the Library Day,” a day to explore all that your library offers and, on Feb. 1, that includes mini golf. The course opens at 10 a.m. for free family fun time, which is open to all ages, free of charge (sign-up recommended), with designated sensory-friendly time from 2 to 4 p.m. (sign-up required).
Complete details for “Mini-Golf at the Library” and registration links for all events can be found at yorkpubliclibrary.org/minigolf.
York Public Library thanks its generous sponsors: Agamenticus Plumbing and Heating, Anchorage Inn, and Nick’s Steakhouse; as well as Camp Eaton, Carey & Giampa Realtors, Atlantic Federal Credit Union, Stage Neck Inn, Fox’s Lobster House, BRG Legal, and Ellis Insurance Agency.
