SARASOTA, Fla. – Freshman Mary Miller led the Georgia Southern women’s golf team shooting 73-69-73 to finish tied for ninth as the team finished sixth at the Spartan Suncoast Invitational at the Palm Aire Country Club on Monday.
Miller posted her third top-10 finish of the season shooting a career best 54-hole total of 215. The freshman finished her third tournament of the season shooting even or under par.
Georgia Southern opened the first round shooting a combined 293 as Regina Plascencia led the Eagles shooting an even par and tallied three birdies to tie for 12th. Miller and Kelsey Chen shot a 73 in the opening round as Miller carded eight birdies and Chen tallied three to sit T22.
Miller birdied two of her final three holes in the second round to card a team-low 69 to move into fourth place. The Savannah, Ga., native shot a bogey-free back nine and tallied five birdies on the round. Chen carded a 71 in the second tallying five birdies to move into the top-15. The Eagles combined to shoot an even par in the second round to finish in fourth place on the day.
In the final round, the Eagles shot a combined 289 and two Eagles posted under par rounds. Louise Reau shot her best round of the tournament carding a 69 and was bogey-free on the back nine. The sophomore tallied six birdies in the round. LoraLie Cowart shot a 70 for her best round of the tournament recording four birdies.
Miller led the field in par 5 scoring (-7) and tied for second most birdies.
The 870 is the second lowest 54-hole team total of the season and the Eagles added nine wins to its resume.
