Sherrone Moore throws on buffs after Michigan stuns Alabama
Sherrone Moore throws on the buffs after Michigan upset Alabama 19-13 in the ReliaQuest Bowl in Tampa, Fla. on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2024.
Michigan football appears to be adding more offensive reinforcements.
Former UMass wide receiver Anthony Simpson has pledged to join the Wolverines via the transfer portal on Sunday night, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
The 5-foot-11 Simpson played only two games this past season due to injury, but hauled in 57 passes for 792 yards (13.9 yard per catch) and three touchdowns in 2023.
The Pawling, New York, native who played his high school ball in Connecticut, was rated the No. 160 wideout and No. 903 player available in the portal according to 247 Sports’ composite rankings. After starting his career at Arizona, where he caught eight passes for 102 yards across two years, Simpson transferred to UMass, where current U-M tight ends coach Steve Casula was on staff.
Simpson is now the second receiving addition for U-M this offseason, joining former Indiana wideout Donaven McCulley.
Michigan, which went 8-5 in 2024 following wins over Ohio State and Alabama, is bringing in new offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey after Kirk Campbell was fired following a regular season that saw U-M finish No. 131 in the nation in passing, with no wide receivers finishing with even 250 yards.
U-M has added 12 players via the transfer portal since the end of the 2024 regular season.
