This might be the most straightforward position group in this piece, at least before spring practices begin.
Colston Loveland is gone, but Klein started six games last season, catching 13 passes for 108 yards. Michigan coaches have said for years that Klein reminds them of Luke Schoonmaker, and the athletic profile checks out. Schoonmaker went from 54 career yards in his first three seasons, to 165 yards in 2021 and 418 in 2022, his fifth year. Klein is only in year-four, but Michigan is aiming for him to look like year-five Schoonmaker this fall.
Behind him in the traditional tight end role, Hansen (six catches, 68 yards, one touchdown) showed plenty of reason for optimism as a freshman, and Prieskorn began to behind the scenes, making the travel roster before enduring an injury. Marshall and Tonielli could push for a rotation spot, especially if Prieskorn’s injury impacts his spring practices, but Klein and Hansen seem like the likely tight ends to pace this room in receptions in 2025.
