The Michigan Wolverines swung and missed with former Maryland quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. despite being initially predicted to land him in the transfer portal, but now the Wolverines are being predicted to land a different player at the position.
On Monday, On3’s EJ Holland placed a prediction in favor of Michigan to land former Fresno State quarterback Mikey Keene. The 5-foot-11, 200-pounder visited Ann Arbor this past weekend and has familiarity with new offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey, who coached him when they were both at UCF.
Holland also reported that if for some reason things don’t work out with Keene, Michigan can circle back to former Baylor quarterback Dequan Finn.
This past season for Fresno State, Keene threw for 2,892 yards, 18 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Heading into his fifth collegiate season, he has 8,245 career passing yards, 65 touchdowns and 28 interceptions with a 67.8 completion percentage.
Keene could be a nice bridge quarterback for five-star true freshman Bryce Underwood. Similar to Cade McNamara and J.J. McCarthy for the Wolverines in the 2021 season, Keene could serve as the veteran presence at the position while guiding along the eventual starter in Underwood. We will still likely see plenty of Underwood on the field in 2025, but Keene may be the favorite as of this moment to be the starter for Michigan next fall.
All in all, no matter who the starter is, fans should be happy that the Wolverines are completely revamping their quarterback room heading into the 2025 season. With Underwood in the mix, Keene potentially transferring in, Jadyn Davis heading into his sophomore season, and Davis Warren potentially returning as well, Michigan will unquestionably be in a better spot at the quarterback position than it was in 2024.
