Michigan football loses four-star DB recruit Ivan Taylor, son of Ike Taylor, to Alabama

The next month of recruiting is a big one for Michigan football’s future and the Wolverines recently got some bad news.

Ivan Taylor, a class of 2025 four-star defensive back from Winter Garden, Florida (West Orange), announced he was decommitting from the Wolverines on Monday evening and immediately committed to join Alabama. It was the conclusion of a long-rumored flip that Michigan attempted to hold off as long as it could.

“I’m blessed for the opportunity, and I look forward to playing for Coach DeBoer and his staff,” Taylor posted on social media. “Roll tide!”

Taylor, son of Pittsburgh Steelers two-time Super Bowl Champion cornerback Ike Taylor, is rated the No. 7 safety in America, No. 9 player in Florida and No. 59 player in his grade according to 247Sports composite rankings.

He was the third highest rated recruit for head coach Sherrone Moore and company in the incoming freshman class, which still has four players ranked inside the nation’s top-100, headlined by five-star offensive tackle Andrew Babalola and ranks No. 14 in the country.

This comes the week after the Free Press reported that all indications at this moment suggest five-star quarterback and nation’s top prospect Bryce Underwood will stick with his commitment to LSU. The Wolverines still have 18 commits in the class, which includes three from defensive backs − Shamari Earls, Jayden Sanders and Kainoa Winston − all of whom are in the top-250 in their class.
