If at first you don’t succeed, try again. Such is the way of the transfer portal.
Michigan football longed to lure former Clarkston (Mich.) offensive guard Rocco Spindler to Ann Arbor, however, Spindler honored his departed grandfather’s wishes and ended up suiting up for Notre Dame instead.
However, after losing to Ohio State in the national championship game, Spindler opted to hit the transfer portal to seek out other options. And after finishing second for him the first time, the Wolverines are hoping to finish first on the redux.
According to On3’s Steve Wiltfong (subscription required), Spindler is working out both setting up a visit to Ann Arbor as well as the NIL of it all with the Wolverines. However, Nebraska and Indiana are pushing for him as well.
Notre Dame transfer Rocco Spindler is at Nebraska on Tuesday, but that is not slowing down two Big Ten schools in contention to land one of the top remaining offensive linemen in the portal. Spindler visited Indiana this past weekend, while a visit to Michigan this upcoming weekend remains a real possibility, sources tell On3’s Steve Wiltfong and me.
Spindler’s camp and Michigan have been working through NIL negotiations ahead of a visit to Ann Arbor, according to Wiltfong. With the trio of schools all facing enrollment deadlines, a decision will need to come quickly for the Notre Dame transfer when he wraps up his final visit.
Michigan already brought in two interior offensive linemen this cycle in former Ferris State IOL Lawrence Hattar and Cal Poly OL Brady Norton. However, the Wolverines are working not only on Spindler, but also his teammate, center Pat Coogan.
The maize and blue did lose two starting interior linemen this offseason in Josh Priebe (out of eligibility) and center Dom Giudice (transferred to Missouri). Giovanni El-Hadi, who started every game at right guard last year, did announce his return to Ann Arbor, along with center Greg Crippen.
