MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) -Many people around the area came out Monday morning for Meridian Native Raekwon Davis’s Holiday Shopping Spree in partnership with the Salvation Army.
This is Rae’s Elves’ fifth annual event, and this year, Raekwon decided to host a holiday shopping spree at the Bonita Lakes Walmart in Meridian to not only give back to his hometown but also to provide for those who may not be able to afford anything for Christmas.
Participants had the opportunity to interact with Raekwon by taking photos, and they also enjoyed delicious refreshments.
Raekwon Davis, a Meridian native and Defensive Tackle for the Indianapolis Colts, says he appreciates any opportunity to give back to the kids this holiday season.
“I love just giving back to the community, seeing the smiles on the kid’s faces, and of course, thanks to the parents that are bringing them, and I am just showing love to my community,” Davis says.
Lt. Roy Fisher, a Salvation Army corps officer, says it is always important, no matter who you are, to come back to your hometown and give back to the community while also partnering with the Salvation Army.
“Having somebody from this community be able to come back and give back to the community and partner with us is so important that the community knows that no matter who you are, no matter where you start. What you put into it, your life, and what the community puts into you, you accept it and let it go out, letting you know that you can do anything,” Fisher says.
Raekwon Davis is excited to use his social media platform to promote the idea that it is okay to give back to those in need.
“Just showing them that anybody can make it out, and when they do and get a high platform, just come back in their communities and give the love because when I’m done, I expect somebody else to do it, but just giving back to your community, there are more blessings to come,” Raekwon says.
Raekwon appreciates everyone who came out to show their love and support and wishes everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
