Mensik Reaches Vienna Quarterfinals; Zheng Advances in Tokyo

Thursday’s action at the Erste Bank Open in Vienna, Austria featured Tour upstart Jakub Mensik reaching the quarterfinals, defeating Miomir Kecmanovic 6-3, 7-6(7).

Needing one hour and 53 minutes to advance, Mensik struck 23 aces, won 86 percent of his first serve points, broke serve on one occasion and added 46 winners to his victory.

The 19-year-old will next face either No. 2 seed Alex de Minuar or Flavio Cobolli.

Other results on the day saw No. 7 seed Jack Draper storm by Luciano Darderi 7-5, 6-1. Draper awaits either No. 3 seed Grigor Dimitrov or inform Czechia player Tomas MacHac.

The final match on the day will feature Karen Khachanov facing Brandon Nakashima.

Thursday’s exciting lineup at the Swiss Indoors in Basel, Switzerland will feature No. 3 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas, No. 4 seed Holger Rune, No. 6 seed Ben Shelton and No. 8 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Top seed and Olympic Gold Medalist Qinwen Zheng stormed into the quarterfinals in Tokyo, Japan on Thursday, ousting local favourite Moyuka Uchijima 7-5, 6-0.

The 22-year-old will next face No. 8 seed Leylah Fernandez.

Other winners on the day included No. 3 seed and Ningbo, China winner Daria Kasatkina, No. 9 seed Katie Boulter and former Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin.

Guangzhou Open Results

Top seed Katerina Siniakova advanced to the final eight of the Guangzhou Open in China on Thursday, defeating American Alycia Parks 6-4, 6-1. The Olympic Mixed Gold Medalist will next face Bernarda Pera. The American defeated Shuai Zhang 6-2, 6-2.

No. 2 seed Marie Bouzkova and No. 3 seed Yue Yuan were ousted by Caroline Dolehide and Mananchaya Sawangkaew, respectively.
