NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt men’s basketball coach Mark Byington has announced the additions of Jaylon Dean-Vines and Jayden Leverett in the class of 2025. The pair mark the first signings for coach Byington at Vanderbilt.

Hailing from Dallas, Dean-Vines stands at 6-foot-4 and is one of the most dynamic athletes in the class of 2025. A consensus three-star prospect, Dean-Vines played for Team Griffin (OK) on the EYBL circuit this summer where he averaged 12.0 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. He helped Team Griffin to the PIT championship in the 2024 Peach Jam, shooting 49 percent from the floor in the showcase.

The new Commodore attends Kimball High School in Dallas and also plays for PHHoenix Prep Diamond Doves on the Overtime Elite circuit. As a junior in 2023-24 at Kimball, Dean-Vines averaged 13.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 2.2 steals.

“Jaylon is one of the most athletic guards in the country,” Byington said. “He is the perfect fit to play in a high-tempo system with his ability to attack in transition, make threes and find his teammates. He played great in EYBL this year and is very young for his class, which makes his ceiling extremely high.”

The second Commodore in the class, the 6-foot-11 Leverett hails from El Paso, Texas,  where he stars at Chapin High School. A four-star prospect on 247Sports and high three-star on On3, Leverett is a versatile big who can play both inside and out. He’s ranked as the No. 106 overall prospect in the 247Sports composite rankings.

As a junior in 2023-24, Leverett was named the El Paso Defensive Player of the Year. He averaged 14.1 points and 7.8 rebounds per game while shooting 64 percent from the field to help Chapin to a 34-5 mark on the season. Through two games in his senior season, Leverett is averaging 15.5 points.

Leverett plays on the UAA circuit for IFN Hoops. He is ranked among the top 10 prospects from the Lone Star State.

“Jayden is someone who has tremendous potential and has taken huge strides in the last few years,” Byington said. “He has great size at 6-11, but also has the ability to play all over the court, not just around the rim.”

Leverett and Dean-Vines will join the Dores next summer for the 2025-26 season.
