Flanders, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men’s golf team finished tied for third at the Drew University Birdie Bash on Wednesday afternoon.
The Ducks scored 308, tying the Drew University “C” team. The Drew “B” team won the event with a 298, edging the University of Scranton by one stroke.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Competing in his first tournament of the year, Austin Liao led the Ducks with a +3, 75. Liao, who shot a +5, 41 on the front nine, rebounded with a -2 on the final nine. He birdied the par-4 10th before shooting two-under over the last five holes. Liao registered birdies on the 15th and 17th to polish off his round.
Sebastian Beaver was just behind him with a +4, 76. Beaver was two-over on both nines but finished his first nine in a birdie on the par-4 ninth hole. He closed out the round with a birdie on 16 before recording two pars on 17 and 18. Punn Chitteratlert was third on the Ducks with a +6, 78. He added a birdie on the seventh hole and finished the back-nine in +1, including a three on the 15th.
Alex Carey carded a +7, 79 and recorded four consecutive pars on the fourth-seventh holes. Carey’s 79 was the lowest round of his brief collegiate career. Dillon Kim was the final competitor for Stevens, notching a +8, 80. He shot +2 on the front nine and recorded birdies on two of the three par-three holes he saw on the today.
UP NEXT
The Ducks head to Douglasville, Ga., for the two-day West Pines Collegiate Tournament this week. The competition will be held on Monday and Tuesday and will be hosted by Oglethorpe University.
