Lake Placid, N.Y. – Sophomore Owen Corby (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) tied for 15th place to lead the Le Moyne College men’s golf team to a seventh-place finish at Columbia University’s Autumn Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at the par-71, 6530 and 6826-yard Lake Placid Club Links Course.
The Dolphins finished in seventh place with an 874 after rounds of 294, one-under par 283 and 297. The 283 is the team’s best score since a 283 in the second round of the Post Eagles Invitational on October 9, 2018.
The host Lions won the team competition with a 16-under par score of 836 following rounds of six-under 278, seven-under 277 and three-under 281. Dartmouth College placed second at 13-under par 839 after scores of one-over 285, six-under 278 and eight-under 276 (the best round of the invitational). St. Thomas Aquinas College finished third at three-under par 849 following rounds of one-under 283, three-under 281 and one-over 285. Dartmouth’s Tyler Brand earned medalist honors after finishing 17-under with a total of 196 following rounds of seven-under 64 and back-to-back scores of five-under 66.
Corby finished in a tie for 15th place in the field of 66 with a career best-tying one-over par total of 214. He registered one eagle, 11 birdies and 29 pars. He was in an eight-way tie for seventh place after carding a one-under par 70 in the first round, which included one eagle, three birdies and 10 pars. He moved up to a tie for fifth place after the second round with a career best-equaling round of two-under 69, which featured six birdies and eight pars. He slipped in the standings on Sunday with a 75, including 11 pars and two birdies.
Junior Anthony Maglisco (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) landed in a seven-way tie for 22nd place with a 217, the second best of his career, after carding 11 birdies and 30 pars. He was in a nine-way tie for 27th after posting four birdies and nine pars in the first round for a 73. He tallied four more birdies and 11 pars to move into a six-way tie for 18th place with a one-under par 70. He dipped on Sunday with a 74, which featured three birdies and 10 pars.
Freshman Jacob Moody (Oakland, Maine / Messalonskee) finished in a three-way tie for 34th place with a 221 after carding seven birdies and 35 pars. He was in a five-way tie for 40th place after a 75, including two birdies and 11 pars, in the first round. He turned in three birdies and 12 pars to post a 73 in the second round to move up five spots. He moved up one more spot on Sunday with another 73, which featured two birdies and 12 pars.
Freshman George Green (Hilton, N.Y. / Hilton) used seven birdies and 33 pars to record a 222 to finish in a three-way tie for 37th place. He ranked in a six-way tie for 45th after a 76 in the first round, which featured two birdies and 10 pars. He jumped 13 spots in the afternoon with an even-par 71, which included three birdies and 12 pars. He slipped five places in the final round with two birdies and 11 pars en route to a 75.
Freshman Mike Maslanka (Taylor, Pa. / Riverside) finished with a 244 with two birdies and 26 pars to place 65th. He opened with an 84, which included one birdie and eight pars. He carded 12 pars in the afternoon en route to a 78. He added one birdie and six pars in the final round, where he shot an 82.
The Dolphins are back in action on Sunday at the 17-team Matthews Auto Intercollegiate hosted by Binghamton University at The Links at Hiawatha Landing in Apalachin.
