BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men’s golf team placed 10th in its first tournament of spring competition at the Battle at Briar’s Creek in Charleston, S.C.
The Blazers (+8) were led by senior
Paul Bruce and freshman
Bernhard Koster who each finished the tournament at even par and placed in a tie for 24th.
Bruce opened the tournament with a 72 in the opening round and followed that up with a three-over 75 in round two and a three under 69 in the final round.
Koster also shot even par in the opening round, followed by a two-over 74 and a two-under 70 in his final two rounds.
Sophomore
Morgan Slaton (71-76-71 = 218, +2) placed in a tie for 34th overall, while fellow sophomore
Trace Bracknell (74-73-77 = 224) was UAB’s fourth finisher at +8 which tied for 53rd.
Freshman
Jonathan Ericsson rounded out UAB’s team efforts in 65th place (+16).
NC State won the team title at -19, while Elon’s Garrett Risner and Clemson’s Kian Rose shared individual honors at -7.
The Blazers return to action next Monday and Tuesday at the Hal Williams Collegiate hosted by South Alabama in Semmes, Ala.
