THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men’s golf team tied for sixth against a stacked 14-team field after Wednesday’s final round of play at Pepperdine’s Southwestern Invitational at Sherwood Country Club (par 71, 7,081 yards).
Leading the Rebel scorecard for the tournament, sophomore Zach Little grabbed his second top-10 finish of the season in a tied-for-10th outing with a 1-under 212. Rounding out the lineup, senior Caden Fioroni tied for 13th at even-par 213, junior Wyatt Plattner (+8) finished 43rd, senior Trevor Lewis (+11) tied for 52nd and senior Ben Sawaia (+14) tied for 63rd.
As a team, the Rebels finished ahead of three of seven competitors ranked in the top 25 entering the week, including No. 10 UCLA, No. 11 Arizona and No. 24 Duke. They placed alongside USC (+11).
The team title went to Texas at 6-under 844 for a one-shot advantage over San Diego State and Vanderbilt (-5) in a tie for second. Claiming individual medalist honors, the Commodores’ Wells Williams posted a 5-under 208 through 54 holes.
