BETHLEHEM, Pa.—The William & Mary men’s golf team posted their best finish of the season in their fall finale, coming in a tie for second in the Lehigh Invitational at historic Saucon Valley Country Club’s Grace Course.
The Tribe finished with a 606 total (300-306) in a tie with Lehigh over the 36 holes on Saturday and Sunday. Siena won the team title at 592 over the field of nine teams.
Preston Burton was the pacesetter for W&M, finishing T-3 individually at 3-over. The Tribe sophomore posted scores of 70-77 and was six shots off the pace of individual champ Brandon Conner of Binghamton.
Burton’s opening round 70 on Saturday put him in second place heading into the final round. After a bogey on the 4th hole, Burton ripped off birdies on 6,8 and 9 to turn at 2-under 34. One more bogey and another birdie on the back-nine brought him to the house in red figures before firing 77 on Sunday.
Logan Hunter joined Burton in the top 10 with a T-9 finish on the weekend. Hunter followed up a 77 on Saturday with a 2-over 74 on Sunday. After starting on the Grace Course’s back-nine and turning in 37, Hunter used birdies on the 4th and the 9th to post another 37 on the front side.
Max Johnson and Camden Goldknopf tied for 16th with matching 154 totals. Johnson shot 74 on the tournament’s opening day thanks to three birdies and an even-par 36 on the front side. He posted an 80 on Sunday.
Goldknopf posted a 75 in Sunday’s final round, cashing in on a trio of birdies on the course’s back-nine. The Tribe freshman posted a 79 in the first round.
Grady Williams rounded out the W&M lineup with scores of 83-82 to finish T-37.
