WINTHROP, Mass. – On the heels of claiming his first individual title of the 2024 campaign, Cooper Bertrand (Caledon, Ont.) of the Norwich University men’s golf team was recognized with a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Co-Golfer of the Week nod, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Bertrand was electrifying at the Keene State Invitational on Friday afternoon, initially finishing in a tie for first with New England College’s Graham Hassan after finishing two strokes under par 70, forcing a tiebreaking playoff round to determine the individual champion. Bertrand proved victorious, making an eagle on the first playoff hole to top Hassan and earn the individual title at Keene State among 45 golfers.
Bertrand’s efforts led the Cadets to a second-place finish out of nine teams at the Keene Country Club.
The honor marks the second for the Ontario native over his career, after Bertrand roped in the accolade back, including GNAC Rookie of the Week, on Sept. 18, 2023, after tying for a medalist position and earning the title outright in a playoff. Bertrand concluded his freshman season by earning GNAC Co-Rookie of the Year at the closing of the GNAC Championship.
Bertrand received this week’s Co-Golfer of the Week award with NEC’s Hassan. The honor also marks the first weekly recognition for the Cadets since Harrison Giambattista’s (Danielson, Conn.) second Rookie of the Week laurel toward the end of the 2023 season.
The Cadets will return to the course on Sunday, Oct. 6, traveling to the Country Club of New Hampshire for match play against New England College at 12:00 p.m. Norwich then closes the regular season at the Emmanuel College Invitational on Wednesday, Oct. 9, ahead of the following week’s two-day Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championships.
