CHARLESTON, SC- In their first tournament of the spring, the Augusta men’s golf team is competing in the Battle at Briar’s Creek in Charleston, S.C. After the opening round, the Jaguars were in ninth place at two over par. The second round did get underway, but play was suspended after a few holes due to darkness. The team will resume Tuesday morning with the third round to follow.
After the opening round, Clemson had a one shot lead at -10 with the College of Charleston at -9 and North Carolina State at -8.

For AU, Pieter Rossouw Jr. fired an opening round 71,which was good enough for 11th place.Rossouw’s round was highlighted by six birdies. Stefan Jacobs was a shot behind with an even par 72. Jacobs birdied the first three holes of the day and added two more on the afternoon.
Josh Koekemoer shot a 73 while Chapman Barnett fired a 74 for the final counting score for Augusta. They each registered three birdies during their rounds.
Three Augusta golfers did manage to play a hole or two in the second round, but the others, and the majority of the field, will have to wait until Tuesday with the intention on playing 36 holes and completing the tournament.
