Center Gabe Quillan scored a season-high 25 points for the Hope College men’s basketball team during a 96-71 loss to Marietta College (Ohio) on Saturday at the Great Lakes Invitational in Grand Rapids.
The 6-9 center shot 81.8 percent from the floor (9-of-11) while also grabbing nine rebounds in 34 minutes of action at Calvin University.
Marietta (4-1) never trailed after scoring the game’s first five points. The Pioneers extended their lead to 55-36 by halftime.
Frank Waganfeald led Marietta after recording 27 points on .643 FG% (9-of-11).
Jayden Bradshaw chipped in 22 points for the Pioneers on .727 FG shooting (8-11).
Marietta finished 52.3% from the field and 55.0%.
The Flying Dutchmen, who shot 43.6% from the field for the game, also received 11 points from freshman guard Brady Miller (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Central) and nine from junior guard Justice Mims (Rochester Hills, Michigan / Adams).
Hope dropped to 2-3 on the season after losing its second game in the Great Lakes Invitational.
On Friday, the Flying Dutchmen lost 64-48 to No. 12 Saint John’s University (Minnesota).
Hope’s next game is Tuesday, Nov. 26, at 7 p.m. Central at Wheaton College (Illinois).
