SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men’s basketball team snapped its two-game losing streak with an 81-71 Liberty League victory at Union College on Friday evening. With the win, IC is now 6-4 overall this season and 3-0 in Liberty League action.

It was an exciting first half as IC and Union played to six ties and six lead changes over the opening 20 minutes of play. The Bombers would close out the half on a 13-2 run to flip a 37-34 deficit with 4:24 left into a 47-39 lead. Logan Wendell sparked the run as he scored eight points over the final four minutes of the half and went into the locker room with 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field.

Evan Cabral also had a strong first half with 10 points and six rebounds and he continued that performance in the second half to finish with a game-high 23 points. Cabral also pulled down seven rebounds with four assists.

Aidan Holmes added nine points in 17 minutes of action in the half on three made 3-pointers.

The Bombers shot 16-for-28 (57.1%) from the field in the opening 20 minutes and were 9-for-16 (56.3%) from 3-point range.

IC’s nine-point halftime lead proved to be enough as the Bombers never relinquished its lead over the final 20 minutes of play and cruised to the 81-71 victory.

The Garnet Chargers would climb to within a one-point difference, 68-67, with just over four minutes to go in the contest, but IC went 7-for-8 at the line for the remainder of the game to secure the win.

Jaylon O’Neal also played a huge role in holding off Union in the second half as he scored 11 of his 13 points in the second stanza. Chris Leysath added six points, while Cole Wissink and Yoav Regev each finished with five points. Alex Penders added three points.

Ithaca heads to Hobart tomorrow afternoon for a 4 p.m. matchup in Geneva.
