BIRMINGHAM, Mich. – The Oakland Men’s and Women’s Golf team earned first place in the Motor City Match-up at the Birmingham Country Club.
Monday featured the Golden Grizzlies versus the Detroit Mercy Titans. Throughout the day, numerous Golden Grizzlies had impressive showings on the links. In the head-to-head match-up with Detroit Mercy, the Oakland Men’s and Women’s programs scored 8.50 total points to the Titans 3.50.
Wins from Olivia Hemmila, Lily Bargamian, Grace Boczar, Nateda Her, Jack Zubkus, Bhavneet Sohal, and Savannah Haque helped propel the Golden Grizzlies to a dominant win against the Titans. Nateda Her finished 36 holes six strokes ahead of the Titans. Jack Zubkus finished the first match-up three strokes ahead of Vinny Levesque. Bhavneet Sohal, Lily Bargamian, and Savannah Haque had a day, all finishing five strokes ahead. Olivia Hemmila finished with an impressive six shot lead on the day. Grace Boczar finished one stroke ahead of the Titans to round out the group.
After a dominant win on Monday, the Golden Grizzlies were set to face off against Central Michigan for a championship match-up. In a very competitive match-up, the Golden Grizzlies stood on top finishing with a team score of 6.50 and the Chippewas finished with 5.50.
With wins from Luke Kelly, Lily Bargamian, Nateda Her, Brennan Sullivan, Savannah Haque, and Bhavneet Sohal, the Golden Grizzlies won the championship match-up. Luke Kelly had an exceptional day finishing eight strokes ahead for a 69 shot total. Bargamian had another impressive day, finishing six strokes ahead. Her finished five strokes ahead to give the Golden Grizzlies another win. Sullivan showcased his skills in a close competition where he finished one stroke ahead. Haque had herself a day, finishing an impressive nine strokes ahead. Lastly, Sohal had another stellar day finishing four strokes ahead of his competition.
This Motor City Match-up first place finish demonstrates continued success for both the Men’s and Women’s Golf team. With the end of the fall season fast approaching, the golf programs have shown dominance.
Next up the Women’s Golf team heads to Evansville for the Evansville Invite. In their final invitational of the fall season, they look to continue the success they have seen in the last few competitions. On the Men’s side, they will head to Xavier for the Musketeers Invitational. This will also be their final competition for the fall season and a great opportunity for the Golden Grizzlies.
The PGA Tour heads to Torrey Pines next week for the Farmers Insurance Open, which will be a Wednesday-Saturday event.To av
