Families in Bed-Stuy received a helping hand from the Meezy Foundation on Sunday during its first-ever school giveaway and basketball jam.
The Meezy Foundation was created in honor of Quamel Jarelle Anderson, who was killed in 2019.
Tara Lewis, organizer of the giveaway and the foundation, said the aim of the event was to support the Brooklyn Ballers, a local basketball team, while giving parents a break from rising supply costs.
The giveaway supported over 100 students and over 20 basketball team members, ages 6 years old to 17 years old.
