McDermott has secured an EPCI contract from QatarEnergy LNG.

The contract is for the NFS offshore pipelines and cables project.

It builds upon McDermott’s previous engagements with the Qatari entity, including the NFS pipelines front end engineering design, the NFS jackets EPCI, and the North Field Expansion Project (NFXP) topsides and pipelines.

The NFS project is key to increasing Qatar’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) production capacity from 77 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) to 142mtpa.

The contract’s scope includes the EPCI of nearly 250km of offshore and onshore gas pipelines.

These pipelines will connect five new offshore wellhead platforms to two new onshore LNG trains, alongside subsea composite power and control cables.

McDermott will manage the project from its Doha office, with fabrication support from the QFAB yard located in-country.

The engineering company’s in-house marine assets will be used for the installation.

McDermott Qatar country manager and vice-president of operations Neil Gunnion said: “We are honoured to once again receive the trust of QatarEnergy and QatarEnergy LNG to deliver some of their largest and most strategically important projects.

“McDermott is now responsible for all of the offshore infrastructure associated with Qatar’s massive North Field Expansion, with the execution done predominantly in Qatar. Between our main execution centre in Doha and our QFAB fabrication facility in Ras Laffan, we are able to deliver complex offshore projects for Qatar, in Qatar.”

In a separate development, last month, QatarEnergy awarded a $4bn (QR14.56bn) offshore engineering, procurement and construction contract to Saipem, an Italian energy engineering company.

This contract formed part of the North Field Production Sustainability Offshore Compression Programme, aimed at sustaining the output of the North Field.

Saipem’s responsibilities under the contract include the engineering, procurement, fabrication and installation of six platforms, as well as approximately 100km of corrosion-resistant alloy rigid subsea pipelines, 28in and 24in in diameter.

Additionally, the contract encompasses the installation of 100km of subsea composite cables, 150km of fibre-optic cables and other subsea facilities.
