BLUFFTON, Sc. (WTOC) – The SCHSL saw its girls golf season come to an end on Tuesday at various courses around the state. Down in the Lowcountry, the May River Sharks took home the AAAA title for the second consecutive year.
The lineup of Ella Claire Harwell, Claire Green, Addison Mitchell, Robbin Zetrouer, Ava Cunningham, Hailey Zhao shot a 628 (+28) over the two-day tournament at the Rose Hill Golf Club in Bluffton to win the title.
Zetrouer (1st, +3), Green (4th, +5), and Cunningham (7th, ) finished in the top-10 individually.
“These girls are the most dominant and decorated team in the county’s history,” May River head coach Nathan Campbell said. “I am extremely proud of our girls’ dedication and commitment to becoming their best selves on and off the course. We have two leaders that are committed to play golf on the next level in Robbin and Claire. Our younger girls have seen their leadership and have a promising future in the game of golf. Our school and county just witnessed history as the records they have set will last for quite some time. I am just the lucky guy that got to witness this greatness.”
Hilton Head were the tournament hosts and took second place at +38. Beaufort finished in seventh at +80.
The state championship is the fifth team title of the fall for the Sharks. They also won the Lady Bengal, Style Driver Tournament of Champions, Greenwood Invitational, and the Charleston Classic.
This is May River’s fourth girls golf state championship in program history.
