The Dallas Mavericks were close to winning the franchise’s second championship last season, but they came up short.
After bringing in Klay Thompson, the Mavericks are on another quest towards getting a ring. However, things have not gone according to plan.
Dallas is ninth in the Western Conference with a 10-8 record. The West is becoming more competitive, and if the Mavericks want to remain a top team, they need a few adjustments. Those changes may happen at the power forward position.
Dallas’ power forward P.J. Washington started off slow, but is starting to pick things up. Washington is averaging 11.6 points and 8.8 rebounds. He is shooting roughly 44%, but his percentage beyond the arc is less than stellar. He is hitting on 26.7% of shots from three-point range.
While Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic can create their own shots, their playmaking abilities are critical to the team’s success. And if one of them passes the ball, they need reliable shooters to knock it down.
Washington’s struggles could make the Mavericks turn to someone such as Washington Wizards forward Kyle Kuzma, as suggested by Bleacher Report. Kuzma is having a solid year, as he is averaging 17.3 points and 5.9 rebounds. He is shooting around the same percentage from deep as Washington. This could be a concern, but with Kuzma’s ability and willingness to score, he could be a valuable asset.
The Mavericks need as much offense as possible, and the 29-year-old forward can come in right away and provide that. This also is not the first time his name has been tied to Dallas. He was one of their targets last season.
The Wizards are a rebuilding team, and the Mavericks are looking to compete. Kuzma could welcome a trade if it brings him another championship. If the Mavericks can pull off a deal, it will be worthwhile.
