Marshwood High School senior Sarah Theriault is the Seacoast Preseason Girls Basketball Player of the Year, as voted by the Seacoast community. The poll is presented by York County Community College at part of the Athletes of the Week program.
Theriault won the online poll by receiving nearly 29% of the online voting, for a total of 1,178. Winnacunnet High School junior Ari Bennett finished second with 904 votes.
St. Thomas Aquinas senior Genna Bolduc finished third with 391 votes, Portsmouth Christian Academy junior Ava Buchanan had 324 votes and Portsmouth High School senior Syd Pettis had 260 votes, rounding out the top five, respectively.
“I think it’s great and awesome that (Theriault) is being acknowledged for what she’s contributed up through her junior year,” Marshwood head coach Angie Littlefield said. “I think she’s a real standout player who has the opportunity to reach higher potentials that she has up until this point.”
Littlefield said Theriault really has the ability to control the game in “so many ways,” and is excited to see what her senior year brings.
“She’s a very strong player. She likes to play inside, but can also shoot (the ball) at three levels,” Littlefield said of Theriault, who plays both guard and forward. “So, she has the ability to handle the basketball, so that helps us as well, and she’s often matched up with somebody bigger than her, but she’s typically quicker than them and can really expose the weaknesses in her opponents.”
Adding that Theriault is a dynamic, and all-around player, Littlefield has
“I expect her to really shine, and I’m hoping that each game she plays to her potential,” Littlefield said. “She really has the ability to determine wins and losses for us, because she is such an important part of our team, and what she brings to the floor.”
