Marquette’s Shaka Smart talks about Kam Jones’ 27 points at Creighton
Kam Jones had 27 points to lead the Golden Eagles in a loss at Creighton.
That No. 2 seeding in the NCAA Tournament that the Marquette men’s basketball team seemed headed for this season is likely slipping away from the Golden Eagles.
MU (18-6, 9-4 Big East) has lost three straight games, albeit to good teams in Connecticut at home and St. John’s and Creighton on the road. But the defeats still ding the Golden Eagles’ profile a bit.
Each Monday, the Journal Sentinel will take a look at MU’s previous week and assess how its résumé has changed and stacks up to the competition.

Feb. 4 at St. John’s: The Red Storm gained some separation in the Big East title race with a 70-64 victory over MU at Madison Square Garden in New York. MU allowed St. John’s to pull down 21 offensive rebounds.
Feb. 8 at Creighton: The Golden Eagles fell in Omaha, 77-67, to lose three straight games for the first time since Shaka Smart’s first season. The good news for MU is that Kam Jones got going with 27 points.
Marquette vs. DePaul, Tuesday: The Golden Eagles have just one game this week, and they hope to end their three-game skid by beating the rebuilding Blue Demons (11-13, 2-11). But MU can’t overlook DePaul; in the first meeting on Jan. 14, the Golden Eagles needed overtime for a 85-83 victory.
