The first weekend of 2025 will end with a mandatory payout
of the 20-cent Rainbow Pick 6 on Sunday at Gulfstream Park, where the estimated
jackpot pool is estimated to reach $3 million.
Saturday marked the ninth consecutive racing day that the
popular multi-race wager went unsolved since being hit for a $244,071.70 payout
Dec. 21, just three racing days after one lucky bettor scored a $489,592.94
payoff Dec. 15. The carryover going into Sunday’s program was $337,274.34.

Sunday’s sequence spans races 5-10 and begins with a $94,000
maiden special weight event for 3-year-old fillies at a mile on the turf with
an approximate post time of 2:14 p.m. EST. The dozen entered include Just
Silvia for trainer Todd Pletcher, Sol d’Oro for Christophe Clément, Tellus
Mater for Graham Motion, In the Wild for Shug McGaughey, Crystalaire for George
Weaver, Sweet Surrender for Bill Mott, Close Up for Cherie DeVaux and both Cocktail
Kisses and Goal for Mark Casse.
Race 6 is a starter optional claimer for 4-year-olds and up
going 1 1/16 miles on the Tapeta with seven entrants. They are led by Imaginary
Stables’ 8-5 program favorite Be Like Clint, moving from turf to the synthetic
where the 6-year-old gelding owns a record of 19: 5-6-2. Hot Blooded will race
first off the claim for trainer Carlos David, who connects at 36% with the
move.
Ten 3-year-old maidens are set to line up for a claiming
event at 1 1/16 miles on the Tapeta in race 7. Chanticleer, a $725,000 son of

Pletcher, who also entered Promissione, a $375,000 son of Tiz the Law who will
wear blinkers after running eighth in his lone start at 2 on Dec. 7 on the
Gulfstream turf. War Commander was second as the favorite in a one-mile-and-70-yard
maiden claimer Dec. 12 on Tapeta.
Race 8 is an entry-level, optional-claiming allowance for
4-year-olds and up scheduled for 1 1/2 miles on the grass. L’Antharis, a
two-time winner in his native France, has run second in two North American
starts, both last year going 1 3/8 miles. The Ginger Wizard races for the first
time as a gelding after finishing fourth, beaten by 2 1/4 lengths, in
Gulfstream’s two-mile H. Allen Jerkens on Dec. 7. Harry Hood ran second by a
nose in the 1 1/2-mile Pan American (G2) in March.
Sunday’s feature comes in race 9, an open one-mile-and-70-yard
allowance for 3-year-old fillies on the Tapeta. War Signal, a 4 1/4-length
winner at the distance Dec. 7 on the synthetic at Woodbine, is the 8-5
morning-line favorite for Hall of Famer Casse. Hello Hello Hello is a two-time
winner going the distance over the Gulfstream course. Smile Po has two wins and
a second in three tries on the Gulfstream Tapeta.
The sequence ends with race 10, another $94,000 turf event
for maiden fillies and mares at a mile. Just So Pretty was beaten by a head and
by two lengths in maiden special-weight events on the turf at Saratoga and
Aqueduct. El Zain is a $700,000, 4-year-old daughter of Medaglia d’Oro who is making
her debut.
On mandatory payout days, the entire Rainbow Pick 6 jackpot pool
is returned to the bettor or bettors with the most winners in the wager’s
six-race sequence. The carryover jackpot usually is paid out only when there is
a single, unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no
unique ticket, 70% of that day’s pool usually goes back to those bettors
holding tickets with the most winners, and 30% is carried over to the jackpot
pool.
