These measures reflect the BCCI’s commitment to maintaining high standards and unity within the team. The decision to implement these guidelines comes after India’s disappointing performance in recent series, including a 1-3 loss in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.
A thorough review by key figures, including captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and BCCI president Roger Binny, led to these changes. Here is a detailed breakdown of the new rules introduced by the BCCI.

Players must take part in domestic matches to remain eligible for national selection and central contracts. This policy ensures players stay connected with the domestic ecosystem, helping develop future talent and maintain match fitness. Exceptions require approval from the selection committee chairman.
Players must travel with the team for practice sessions and matches. Personal travel arrangements with families are discouraged.
Any exceptions need approval from the head coach and selection committee chairman.
Strict baggage rules have been set for players and support staff. Excess baggage costs must be covered by the player.
For example, players can carry up to 150 kg on long tours but only 120 kg during shorter ones.
Players cannot bring personal staff, such as cooks or security personnel, on tours without explicit BCCI approval. This aims to avoid distractions and streamline team operations.
Players must coordinate with team management for sending equipment to the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Additional costs for separate arrangements are the player’s responsibility.

Players can have their families join them during overseas tours if the tour exceeds 45 days. The family visit can last for up to two weeks, with the BCCI covering shared accommodation. All other costs must be borne by the player.
Players must attend BCCI’s official events, including promotional shoots and functions, as part of their professional commitments.
Players must stay with the team until the official conclusion of a series, even if matches end earlier. This rule ensures unity and team bonding.
