LUTSEN, Minn. — A man died when a golf cart tipped during a bachelor party at Lutsen’s Superior National Golf Course in June.
While the incident happened on June 1, the Cook County Sheriff’s Office was just able to share their deputy’s report with Northern News Now Thursday morning.
In the report, the deputy said, around 4 p.m. that afternoon, they heard a page for a medical call at the golf course. It was reported a golf cart had rolled over on hole 17 and one person was lying on the ground.
The driver of the golf cart was later identified as Kristopher Reginato of Thunder Bay.
First responders on scene said they spoke with the passenger who was riding in the cart when it flipped.
The passenger told law enforcement that they were going down the hill and Reginato put the cart in neutral to go fast.
The passenger told authorities he asked the driver to slow down, but he said Reginato did not.
Authorities say the passenger also asked him not to turn at the bottom of the hill and just go straight. However, the passenger said Reginato ended up turning at an “unsafe speed,” causing the cart to rollover.
Reginato was eventually airlifted to a hospital due to his injuries and ended up dying.
It’s unclear if the passenger was hurt in the crash.
The Cook County Sheriff’s Office said they are no longer investigating the incident and no criminal charges are expected due to the golf cart driver being the person who died.
The Sheriff’s Office did not immediately say if alcohol was involved.
We reached out to Superior National Golf Course, and we are waiting to hear back.
