HAYDEN, Idaho — A Hayden man has been arrested following a firearm assault.
According to authorities, deputies from the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office responded to an assault involving a firearm at the Prairie Shopping Center on Jan. 28th, at approximately 11:13 a.m.
According to Central Dispatch, a caller reported that a man had threatened a woman with a firearm before fleeing the scene. Law enforcement, including Coeur d’Alene Police Officers and Idaho State Police Troopers, quickly arrived and located the victim.
The female victim said she was in her vehicle when the suspect approached and showed a firearm. In an attempt to escape, she fled in her vehicle, knocking the suspect over. She described the man, leading deputies to locate him nearby after an extensive search.
The suspect was identified as Douglas Smith, a 64-year-old male from Hayden. Smith was arrested on an outstanding warrant for failure to register as a sex offender and is currently in custody at the Kootenai County Jail.
The investigation into the allegations is ongoing, and authorities will provide updates as they become available.
