WATCH: Jackson Durchik chips in for birdie to win playoff hole during Richland County Junior Golf Tournament
Lexington’s Jackson Durchik chipped in for birdie to win a playoff hole and the 2024 Richland County Junior Golf Tournament’s 15-16 age group.
ONTARIO — Jackson Durchik saved his best shot for last.
Literally.
After 36 holes, Durchik was tied with Landon Ball for first place in the 15-16 age division of the Richland County Junior Golf Tournament on Tuesday at Oak Tree Golf Club forcing a playoff to determine who takes home the title. The two played the Par 4 ninth as a playoff hole. Both players found a bit of trouble off of the tee but Ball managed a solid shot to the back fringe while Durchik had to punch out from under a tree and saw his ball resting in the rough just off of the back left side of the green.
Needing a solid shot to get up and down and possibly force a second playoff hole, Durchik, a Lexington junior, flopped a perfect shot onto the green and saw the ball trickle toward the cup, bang off of the flag stick and into the hole for a birdie sending his family into a frenzy. Ball, a Clear Fork junior, gave his putt a solid stroke but missed a few inches right and Durchik took home a dramatic Richland County Junior Golf Tournament championship.
Both shot matching 75s on Day 1 at Twin Lakes Golf Course before firing matching 77s at Oak Tree on Tuesday for 152s.
Shelby grad and Ashland University bound Will Magers won the 17-18 Division with a two-day score of 147. He shot a 78 on Day 1 at Twin Lakes before blistering Oak Tree with a 69. Lexington’s Nathan Dawson took second with a 72-79-151.
Madison eighth grader Brandon Maglott took the 13-14 Division championship with a consistent two day score of 85-85-170. He sat two strokes back of Kolbe Ramion after the first day. Ramion took second with an 83-90-173.
In the girls division, Katelyn Miley took the title by 12 strokes with an impressive 75-72-147. Joy CY Kim took second with an 84-75-159.
