Madison Keys is striving for more Grand Slam titles after winning her first at the Australian Open.
The 29-year-old entered the tournament in good form after winning the Adelaide International just days before beginning her campaign in Melbourne.
The American’s form and confidence grew right through the campaign and she saved her two best appearances for the semi-finals and final.
Keys defeated Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka back-to-back and became the oldest player to achieve that feat on the way to winning a major.
Many wondered if Madison Keys would win a Grand Slam during her career.
She always possessed the talent and is arguably the cleanest ball striker on tour, but she had not been able to produce her best tennis consistently.
Keys also struggled in crucial moments from a mental standpoint and experienced plenty of injuries. But going to therapy helped her develop a stronger sense of belief and confidence, and it enabled Keys to up her level to win the Australian Open and achieve her Grand Slam dream.
Now she has tasted success at major, Keys is eager to lift more championships at the highest level of professional tennis.
“That’s definitely the goal,” Keys told CBS Sports. “I feel like now I at least kind of know what to expect, and I know all of the work that it takes just to even put yourself in that position.
“And I think there’s definitely going to be a learning curve of how do you back that up? And since I’ve never done that. So I’m really looking forward to the challenge.”
Keys is looking for more success at the other three Grand Slams after winning the Australian Open. The next Grand Slam in 2025 is the French Open, which will be held on clay from May 25 to June 8.
Keys reached the semi-finals in the French capital back in 2015, but she has not been that far in the tournament since.
The 29-year-old has made the Wimbledon quarter-finals on two occasions, and she certainly has the game to go beyond that round in 2025.
Keys will also be a threat at the US Open, where she reached the final in 2017 and lost to Sloane Stephens in straight sets.
She also suffered an agonising loss to Sabalenka in the 2023 semi-finals, and Keys will certainly be aiming for her second final in New York this year, with the intention of going all the way this time around.
