Madison Keys has not played since winning the Australian Open but she continues to climb up the rankings.
Keys has won her last 12 matches on the WTA Tour and they included some terrific performances against many of the world’s best.
After Keys’ triumph at Melbourne Park, she became the the oldest player to defeat the World number one and two in semi-finals and final at a Grand Slam since WTA Ranking records began in 1975.
The American has enjoyed her hard-earned victory and she is set to reach another milestone despite not playing since January.
Madison Keys equalled her career-high ranking of number seven after winning the Australian Open.
She has moved up to number six, and when the updated WTA rankings are released on Monday, she will rise to the number five position, a new career-high.
They will take Keys above her compatriot Jessica Pegula, who has won just five matches since she lost to Keys in the Adelaide International final.
The newly-crowned Grand Slam champion will have World number four Jasmine Paolini in her sights.
The Italian suffered an ankle injury at the Dubai Tennis Championships and it remains to be seen if she will be fit for the North American hard court swing.
Keys had plans to compete at the ATX Open in Texas that runs from February 24 to March 2.
But she is unable to participate because according to WTA Tour rules, only one top 10 player can feature in tournaments worth 250 rankings points.
With Pegula having already committed to the event, Keys will miss out on the chance to play in front of her home fans.
At least not until the Indian Wells Masters, which starts on March 2 and will end on March 16, where Keys is expected to compete.
This will be followed by the Miami Open, which commences on March 16 and will come to an end on March 30.
