Louisville football’s trip to Stanford was disastrous on and off the field.
After suffering a last-second 38-35 loss to the Cardinal, U of L had to stay in California an extra day. The co-pilot of the plane got sick and there wasn’t enough crew to fly back to Louisville, so the Cardinals spent the night Saturday.
“We were able to adjust and adapt and get a lot of stuff done Sunday morning at the hotel that would have normally happened here, other than going out on the field,” Cardinals coach Jeff Brohm said.
To try to keep some normalcy, U of L still had its weekly Sunday meeting to go over film at the hotel before heading back home at 12:30 p.m. PT. The four-hour flight and three-hour time change meant the Cardinals didn’t get home until Sunday night.
Fortunately for them, the Cardinals didn’t have to travel this week and will look to have a better weekend when Pittsburgh comes to town for the ACC finale at 4 p.m. Saturday. Louisville has a chance to finish its season with nine wins if it can win its final two regular-season games and its bowl game.
- Louisville’s offensive line has gone three straight games without allowing a sack.
- Louisville is in a three-way tie with Georgia Tech and Syracuse for fourth place in the ACC standings. Pitt is in a five-way tie for seventh.
- U of L wide receiver Ja’Corey Brooks was named a semifinalist for the 2024 Biletnikoff Award.
- The Cardinals have a 50.6% chance of winning out with only Pitt and Kentucky remaining on the schedule, according to ESPN. Their overall strength of schedule ranks 22nd nationally and third toughest in the ACC behind Florida State (ninth nationally) and Stanford (17th).
Louisville 35, Pittsburgh 31. After a subpar performance at Stanford, the Cardinals will have a better showing and avenge last year’s loss to Pitt.
