Louisville coach Jeff Walz discusses the growth of women’s basketball
Louisville women’s basketball coach Jeff Walz talks about how women’s basketball has grown over the past couple of years due to social media.
Louisville women’s basketball will have the national spotlight this afternoon when it plays No. 20 N.C. State on ABC.
The Wolfpack has won five straight over U of L; the Cardinals won six in a row versus N.C. State before that. The two winning streaks have led to an 8-8 series tie.
Despite it being the first ACC game of the season for the teams, it could have bigger implications for the end of the season. Louisville and N.C. State were projected to finish fourth and second, respectively, in the ACC during the preseason. The conference is as competitive as ever; Notre Dame is looking to defend its ACC Tournament title. Virginia Tech won the regular-season title but will have a tougher task this season. The Hokies lost head coach Kenny Brooks to Kentucky. Virginia Tech also lost its top players: Liz Kitley graduated, and Georgia Amoore followed Brooks to UK.
After the ACC opener, Louisville will have a nonconference game at Memphis before going full throttle on conference action.
Stay tuned here for live updates from the KFC Yum! Center.
The game will be broadcast on ABC with Beth Mowins and Debbie Antonelli on the call. Qualified subscribers can stream the game on ESPN+.
Nick Curran (play-by-play) and Cortnee Walton (analyst) will have the call on the Cardinal Sports Network (WLCL 93.9-FM and WGTK 970-AM in Louisville).
