PITTSBURGH — Pat Kelsey’s inaugural Louisville basketball team has made a habit of putting its best foot forward during winning time.
The Cardinals (12-5, 5-1 ACC) did just that to escape Pittsburgh (12-4, 3-2) on Saturday with their sixth consecutive victory — this one of the Quad 1 variety.
Trailing 52-47 with 12:21 remaining in regulation and the Panthers on an 18-7 run that brought the Petersen Events Center to life, U of L won the stretch, 35-26, thanks in large part to Reyne Smith scoring 16 of his game-high 25 points during it.
Louisville snapped a five-game losing streak to Pitt with the W — its first in the Steel City since Dec. 22, 2020 — and ended the Panthers’ 15-game home winning streak in the process. The Cards had lost three in a row here by an average of 24.3 points.
Louisville will be back on the road for its next game, a 7 p.m. tipoff Tuesday at Syracuse.
