The Los Angeles Lakers will send guard Bronny James to their G-League affiliate beginning Saturday, per ESPN.
James will join the South Bay Lakers after staying with the NBA’s Lakers through their game Friday, according to the report. Once joining the G-League Lakers, the plan is for James to only appear in home games as he splits his time between the two teams.
A second-round pick in July’s NBA Draft, James — the son of superstar LeBron James — has appeared in only four NBA games for the Lakers so far this season. In 13 minutes total, the younger James has four points, two assists and one rebound. He’s made only one of his six field-goal attempts.
Bronny and LeBron played together during Los Angeles’s first game of the season, appearing alongside one other for three minutes in a win over the Minnesota Timberwolves. They became the first father-son duo to play together in NBA history in that game, but haven’t appeared on the floor together since.
Bronny, 20, played one year at USC before he was drafted by the Lakers with the 55th pick in the 2024 draft.
After a 3-0 start, Los Angeles has lost four of its last five — all on the road — to drop to 4-4. In a loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday, LeBron, who turns 40 in December, scored a season-high 39 points.
The Lakers will face the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday.
The Minnesota Timberwolves picked up their fifth win of the season on Thursday night, defeating the Chicago Bulls at United Center. Entering this game just 4-3
