LOWELL, Ohio (WTAP) – A longtime volunteer for the Parkersburg High School Football team was life flighted to a hospital after hitting a telephone pole on State Route 60 in Lowell on Thursday afternoon.
The call for the crash came in just before 12:30 p.m.
The driver, Brian Wallace, hit a telephone pole and was entrapped in his vehicle for just under an hour.
Multiple fire departments were called in to help extricate Wallace from the vehicle, according to the Lowell-Adams Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief, Josh Harris.
According to Chief Harris, Wallace was originally supposed to be life flighted to a hospital in Columbus, but he was diverted to a hospital in Zanesville because he needed to be stabilized from his injuries.
The severity of his injuries is currently unknown.
The Lowell-Adams, Devola, and Beverly Volunteer Fire Departments along with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio State Highway Patrol, and Ohio Department of Transportation all assisted at the scene.
Wallace has been helping with the footballs, equipment and more for the Big Reds Football team for many years.
