SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – It’s a new beginning in Longmeadow after a devastating fire in a shopping plaza took many local businesses down with it just over three years ago.
Western Mass News spent the day at the now refurbished plaza where some companies are starting to return.
That fire, just days before Thanksgiving, damaging all six businesses, including the notable Armata’s Market.
The aftermath of the fire spoke for itself, along with business owners devastated at the loss. But now, three years later, the now Maple Center Plaza will feature eight separate retail spaces.
While Armata’s will not be returning to the plaza, at least two former businesses have confirmed their returns– and shared their feelings about their latest milestone.
The first to open: Dream Nail and Spa.
They had their grand opening earlier this month, and while they did not want to speak on camera with us, it was clear that they hit the ground running with state-of-the-art equipment designed for your comfort.
Right next door, Iron Chef Asian Cuisine is not far behind.
Eva Zhang, the manager of Iron Chef, told us that it was difficult to rebuild, especially during the pandemic with limited supplies.
“It’s more than I thought,” she said.
However, Zhang is hopeful that Iron Chef’s former customers are ready for their return.
“I hope, you know, everybody come back to enjoy our dish,” Zhang emphasized. “We have a lot of friends here!”
While Iron Chef doesn’t have an opening date set as of right now, they do expect it to be about a month, and they promise to let customers know as soon as possible.
