As many embark on their New Year’s resolutions, personal trainer and strength coach Jason Frimpong from Lifetime Fitness shared practical advice on how to stay committed to fitness goals, even when motivation wanes.
He said while you may not always feel motivated to work out, but getting it done will make you feel better.
“Most people feel better leaving the gym. More than coming in, the hard part is getting there or waking up to get there,” Frimpong said.
Address Bad Habits
Identify what’s holding you back, like poor diet choices or skipping workouts, and tackle those issues first.
“The burden of performance does not care about your feelings,” Frimpong said.
Take things one day at a time. Small, consistent actions add up over time.
Work out with a friend, join a group, or hire a trainer. “Everybody needs help,” he said.
Pack your gym bag in advance and plan your meals.
Create a plan, make a schedule, and stick to it. Don’t be afraid to embrace routine. “Boring stuff is the good stuff, a lot of people don’t know that,” Frimpong said.
“No matter how you feel, you gotta just continue to just take it day by one day at a time, month by month, week by week, year by year, and just keep going,” he said.
