USC football is set to hire Chad Savage as its next tight ends and inside receivers coach, multiple sources confirmed to USCFootball.com Tuesday. ESPN’s Pete Thamel first reported the hiring.
Savage, 30, will replace former tight ends coach Zach Hanson, who was promoted to offensive line coach after the departure of Josh Henson to become the offensive coordinator at Purdue. The Nevada native comes to USC after spending three seasons on Jay Norvell‘s staff at Colorado State as receivers coach and recruiting coordinator. Prior to his time in the Rocky Mountain state, Savage was the tight ends coach at Nevada in 2021 and the wide receivers coach at San Diego in 2020.
Savage was known for his recruiting prowess with the Rams. He signed the highest ranked recruit in Colorado State history in Downey (Calif.) Warren wideout Jordan Ross, and Savage was rated as the top recruiter in the Mountain West Conference by 247Sports over his three seasons with the program.

Savage is particularly plugged in across Southern California. Colorado State signed 11 players from Southern California in the team’s 2024 recruiting class. By bringing in Savage, USC will add all of his recruiting connections in the Golden State, which are plentiful.
