Texas women’s basketball nonconference schedule
Throughout the day on Wednesday, the Texas women’s basketball program celebrated its future as Aaliyah Crump, a top-five recruit in the Class of 2025, officially signed with the Longhorns.
On Wednesday evening, however, the focus will shift back to UT’s present. Ranked No. 4 in the USA Today Sports coaches poll, Texas has a home game scheduled against Lamar.
Texas (1-0) and Lamar (1-0) are both expected to contend for conference championships this season. Texas was picked to finish second in the Southeastern Conference’s preseason poll. Lamar is the preseason favorite to win the Southland Conference’s title.
Stay tuned for live updates:
Texas won’t face its first challenge of the season tonight. Three days after beating Southeast Missouri State by 72 points in its opener, UT is picking on another mid-major program.
All 10 Longhorns who played in the first half scored at least one point, and Shay Holle’s 10 points led all players. Texas point guard Rori Harmon had eight points, seven assists and four steals.
Texas has played nearly 54 minutes of basketball this season, but only one Longhorn has made a 3-pointer. Senior Shay Holle has knocked down two deep shots tonight. Holle also made UT’s two 3-pointers in its opener.
As a team, Texas is 2-for-7 on its 3-pointers tonight.
Senior Rori Harmon bested Lamar’s point total over the first 10 minutes and Shay Holle matched it. Behind those 15 combined points, UT is in complete control at Moody Center.
No Cardinal scored more than two points in the opening quarter.
Lamar grabbed two early leads on Wednesday, but Texas has seized control of the scoreboard. All five Texas starters have already scored at least once. The Longhorns have also forced seven turnovers on defense.
A team spokesperson has confirmed that sophomore forward Madison Booker will sit out tonight’s game. She is considered day-to-day with a hamstring injury.
An All-American as a freshman and the SEC preseason player of the year, Booker played 25 minutes in UT’s season opener on Sunday. She contributed 18 points, 11 rebounds and six assists.
Senior guard Leila Phelia sat out UT’s season opener against SEMO this past Sunday with an undisclosed injury. A transfer from Michigan, Phelia is expected back for the Lamar game but she is not in the Texas starting lineup. The Longhorns will instead start veterans Rori Harmon, Shay Holle, Aaliyah Moore and Taylor Jones alongside freshman guard Jordan Lee.
Phelia led Michigan in scoring last season while she averaged 16.8 points per game. She was an all-conference honoree in the Big Ten in 2023 and 2024.
