How long does Black Friday last?

Officially, Black Friday is one day when retailers slash the price of their products allowing customers to make major savings they otherwise wouldn’t at any other time of the year. Why is it called Black Friday?

According to the History Channel, the name supposedly originates in the US city of Philadelphia in the 1960s. ‘Black Friday’ was a term used by the local Police to describe the day after Thanksgiving (always on the fourth Thursday in November) due to the difficult conditions and heavy traffic created by the influx of people into the city. The day would have a mixture of both shoppers coming into the city from across the area as well as a mass of supporters for the annual Army vs Navy American Football game.
