Why LIV Golf captains see team golf as future for the sport
Bryson Dechambeau and Bubba Watson detailed the future of team golf in a press conference with Jon Rahm, Phil Mickelson and Brooks Koepka.
After struggling to find a major television deal in its first two seasons, LIV Golf finally has a big-name partner to broadcast its matches in 2025 and beyond.
FOX Sports and LIV Golf on Thursday announced a multi-year media rights agreement for live coverage of LIV’s tournaments beginning next month in Adelaide, Australia on Feb 14-16 at The Grange Golf Club. All three days of all LIV tournaments will air live on either FOX, FS1, FS2, or FOX Business Network. More than half of the tournaments will be shown on FOX or FS1. All LIV Golf coverage also will be streamed on the FOX Sports App and to LIV Golf+ app subscribers. “We are thrilled to partner with FOX Sports, one of the preeminent broadcast networks in the world,” said new LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil. “LIV Golf is getting bigger and bolder, and this relationship signals the next phase of growth as our League joins the company of the nation’s premier sports leagues and conferences. I want to thank the FOX Sports team who share our vision for the future of golf, a new model that is redefining how the sport is experienced.
“LIV Golf is drawing a younger, more active and tech-savvy fan base, and as our players and teams prepare for LIV Golf’s biggest season yet, this agreement will take our broadcast to new heights.”
LIV Golf tournaments were broadcast its first two seasons on The CW, the CW App and LIV Golf Plus.
Jordan Bazant, executive vice president of FOX Sports, said the network is excited to be broadcasting LIV Golf.
“The addition of LIV Golf is a natural fit for FOX Sports’ prominent slate of big events, world-class names and premium sports coverage,” Bazant said.
Jupiter’s Brooks Koepka said joining with FOX Sports is a “huge win” for the golf league that remains in competition with the PGA Tour for the interests of golf fans. LIV Golf and the PGA Tour are in ongoing negotiations to combine commercial businesses and rights into a new for-profit company.
“They know how to bring sports to life, and I’m pumped to see how they showcase what makes our game so unique,” said Koepka, captain of Smash GC. “It’s awesome to have a partner that shares our vision, and I think the fans are going to love what’s coming.”
LIV will have its same announcers with Arlo White handling play-by-play alongside analysts David Feherty and Jerry Foltz in the booth, and Dom Boulet and Su-Ann Heng on the course.
