LA QUINTA, CA.— Freshman Freddie Turnell finished 3-under on Monday in the opening round of The Prestige, helping Little Rock tie for 7th in the team standings with a total score of 356. With two rounds remaining on Tuesday and Wednesday, the Trojans are currently tied with powerhouse programs Stanford and Northwestern, with plenty of opportunities to climb the leaderboard.
Turnell, tied for sixth, sank three birdies to card a 3-under 68 on the par-71 course. Archie Smith, tied for 24th, overcame an early bogey and fired four birdies to finish at 1-under 70. Rhett South sits tied for 53rd after shooting a 1-over 72, while Matteo Cristoni and Alexander Rowland posted a 2-over 73, placing both in a tie for 66th.
North Carolina leads the field at 9-under 351 after the opening round, but the Trojans are eager for more action as they look to make a run for the championship with two days remaining.
