Lisbon has been named Europe’s Best MICE Destination in 2024 at the 5th edition of the World MICE Awards.
This is the second time in a row that Lisbon has won this European honour, having this time the cities of Athens, Berlin, Istanbul, London, Madrid, Milan, Paris and Vienna also in the running.
The MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) segment contributes significantly to tourism revenue and the consequent development of the city. The city’s strategic location, modern and versatile infrastructure, excellent access and diverse cultural offer have consolidated Lisbon as one of the main European destinations for organising events.
For the executive director of the Lisbon Tourism Association, Paula Oliveira, “winning this award is recognition of the collective work to position Lisbon as a global reference destination, which contributes significantly to the creation of revenue and employment, as well as to the rehabilitation of heritage.”
In 2023, 151 associative events were included in the ICCA (International Congress and Convention Association) ranking, an organisation that monitors events worldwide. From 2019 until 2022, Lisbon ranked 2nd place in the European and world rankings. In 2023, with a difference of just one congress to the city that took 2nd place worldwide (Singapore), Lisbon is the 2nd European city with the most events, after Paris.
The World MICE Awards recognise excellence in the MICE industry and reward destinations, airlines, hotels, organisers and infrastructures that stand out in this sector.
