David Montgomery is out for the season after tearing his MCL against the Bills on Sunday.

The Lions running back is far from the only one devastated by the news. 

Montgomery, who was in the midst of a strong season for Detroit, will finish his year with 775 rushing yards – just one yard short of the over on his preseason rushing prop. 

After looking like a shoo-in with three weeks to go in the season, Montgomery bettors end up with the worst of bad beats, falling just an arm’s length short of cashing in. 

Burned NFL bettors are the least of the Lions’ problems, though, after they lost half of their two-headed monster of a backfield. 

Sharing snaps with Jahmyr Gibbs, Montgomery ran for 12 touchdowns and had 36 catches for 341 yards, in addition to his impressive rushing impact. 

The Montgomery injury adds to what suddenly looks like an injury-riddled Lions roster. 

Already without star defensive end Aidan Hutchinson until at least the Super Bowl, Detroit lost defensive lineman Alim McNeill to a season-ending ACL tear and cornerback Carlton Davis is out indefinitely with a fractured jaw.

The loss to the Bills dropped the Lions to 12-2, which is tied with the Vikings and Eagles for the best record in the NFC.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Detroit had fallen to third (+500) on the Super Bowl odds board at FanDuel Sportsbook, behind the Bills (+400) and Eagles (+480).
